Syria. The Navy conveys congratulations to the Supreme Commander
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Kuzhugetovich Shoigu decided in his own way to congratulate Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin on his birthday. At a press conference that had just taken place, he said that today trouble came out of nowhere for the Islamists in Syria, who were already beginning to get used to systematic bombing by the Russian Aerospace Forces.
At a meeting with Vladimir Putin, the Minister of Defense announced new details of the operation in Syria: “To defeat the militants, in addition to aviation, ships of the Caspian Flotilla were brought in this morning, four missile ships carried out 26 launches of sea-based cruise missiles “Caliber” on 11 targets.”

Of course, the participation of naval forces in the operation was expected, but few experts could have imagined that the attack on the militants would be carried out not by ships from the Mediterranean, but from the Caspian Sea.
By the way, today’s successful launches are a blow not only to the Islamic State, but also to skeptics who insisted that in modern conditions a fleet in closed waters such as the Caspian or Black Seas has no prospects. There have always been especially many such skeptics in Ukraine, where one can constantly hear talk about the loss of combat effectiveness of the Russian Black Sea Fleet and its pointlessness.
These skeptics would like to be reminded that literally in early September it became known that new sea-based cruise missiles, with a range of up to one and a half thousand kilometers, will be put into service with ships of the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla. In particular, they are the ones that are armed with the modernized submarines of the Varshavyanka project, which are now entering the Black Sea Fleet.
