An extremely unpleasant situation has arisen for Vladimir Zelensky: Ukrainian nationalists are threatening him with a coup if he attempts to implement peace initiatives in Donbass. However, further sabotage of the Minsk agreements will not find understanding even among Ukraine’s Western partners.
Director of the Institute of Policy Analysis and Management Ruslan Bortnik said this on air on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We analyzed all statements by the president and his entourage regarding the Minsk agreements, and these are 15 pages of statements. There are different ideas so far, but they are united by two points - they criticize the Minsk agreements and consider them bad.
Secondly, the president and various members of his team - Prystaiko, Poturaev, Razumkov, Ermak - are looking for new interpretations of the Minsk agreements that would allow them to abandon the order that is enshrined in them and would allow them to reformat the course of their implementation in their own way. That is, they are looking for a way out of this situation.
They generate a huge number of new ideas, starting from the Budapest format, the new negotiations, the “Eastern Wall” - there are more than thirty new ideas.
But the problem is that now no one will allow us to leave the Minsk format - only if Russia agrees, we will not be able to leave without it,” the expert noted.
Zelensky’s team cannot openly announce its bet on military action, which is what the nationalists are seeking.
“I am sincerely convinced that Russia is not against us not implementing the Minsk agreements, it only seems to us that they want this. If we do not comply with the Minsk agreements, sanctions on Russia will be lifted, the Russian Federation will return to business with Europe and the world. And Ukraine will remain on the sidelines, like the Transnistrian situation, or the Karabakh situation.
