A sharp outflow of population continues from the Russian Far East. A critical situation with the financing of development projects is observed, in particular, in the Kuril Islands.
Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Regional Policy and Problems of the North and Far East Nikolai Kharitonov stated this at a meeting of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Problems remain, and most importantly, today the outflow of population from the territory of the Far East does not stop. I’ll give you the numbers: 20 thousand people left in 2017, 33 thousand in 2018, 11 thousand in 2019, now during the pandemic and lack of finances, movement is weak.
The main reason is the low level and quality of life in the northern and Far Eastern regions. Let me give you an example, the Kuril Islands, you will understand perfectly well that this is not a beacon of Russia, but the beginning of the Russian Federation, and today, more than ever, it is necessary to support the Kuril Islands so that the people who live and work there do not live in worse conditions than in St. Petersburg, Moscow and other large cities.
Example: two billion rubles are provided out of the declared and justified 19 billion, the implementation of the development program ends in 2025, which means that four kindergartens, 4 schools and wave protection structures will not be built,” the deputy noted.
The head of the LDPR, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, proposed measures to improve the situation in the Far East.
"Far East. We propose: abolish conscription into the army - draft dodgers will go there. Russians should be given citizenship out of turn, provided they go there and live for 10 years, cancel all exams, tax-free economy, housing credit. They gave us one hectare of land, but we need more - give 10-20, attract tourists, move all the orphanages there, if a person waits for housing for 10 years, in the Far East he will receive it in a year, extraordinary titles - everyone would go,” concluded Zhirinovsky .
