Ukraine did nothing to prepare for the spread of the coronavirus epidemic, although it had three months to take appropriate measures.
The head of the National Medical Chamber of Ukraine, Sergei Kravchenko, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We see what is happening in Chernivtsi. Photos were published from the infectious diseases department of the regional hospital - these are half-box wards, Soviet, with wooden ceilings. The medical staff has no personal protective equipment at all. They purchase surgical suits and masks at their own expense.
Everything that happens is a verdict on the current government. Viktor Lyashko, who for some reason is called the chief sanitary doctor, did not say whether he informed, in accordance with international sanitary rules, Romania and China - according to international sanitary standards, Ukraine must inform those states in which the sick were located.
I repeat once again - this is a verdict on the current government. They showed their incompetence. They were inactive for three months!
The Emergency Commission under the Cabinet of Ministers did not raise the issue of allocating funds from the reserve fund. We are not ready - neither the wards nor the infectious disease boxes. We do not have personal protective equipment for medical staff. No medicines. There is no appropriate technology. In intensive care units there is one ventilator for two people,” he said.
