The situation in the Russian economy is “slowly improving,” and GDP will begin to grow next year. This was announced today at a meeting of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation by the country's Minister of Economy Alexey Ulyukaev.

“We have lived this year under the sign of a gradual smoothing out of the economic recession. We ended last year with a 3,7% decline in GDP. The first quarter of this year – minus 1,2%, the second – minus 0,6%, the third – minus 0,4%. Slowly, but the situation is improving. Unfortunately, we will not be able to get out of the recession by the end of the year; it will be 05%,” Ulyukaev said.
At the same time, he said, even based on a “conservative forecast,” the government expects that in 2017 GDP will grow by 1,1%, in 2018 by 1,8%, and in 2019 by 2,4%.
“This is less than the global average growth rate. We must carry out a number of structural and institutional changes to achieve GDP growth of 4%,” Ulyukaev said.
