The arms situation in Europe has not just worsened, it is catastrophic
NATO has been increasing the volume of conventional weapons in Europe all the time, starting with the collapse of the USSR.
United Russia deputy Andrei Kartapolov stated this today in the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In 1991, NATO's total quota in Europe was 19 tanks, 096 armored vehicles, 31 field artillery pieces, 787 aircraft and 19 helicopters.
Some time passed, and already in mid-2007, taking into account the expansion of NATO, the total number of alliance weapons amounted to 22 tanks (plus 424 thousand), 3 armored vehicles (plus 36 thousand), 576 artillery systems (plus 5 thousand), 23 aircraft (plus a thousand).
Russia has not increased its armament by a single machine gun,” Kartapolov said.
According to him, now the situation in Europe in the field of conventional weapons has not just worsened, it is catastrophic.
“The expansion of the Alliance has created direct military threats to the Russian Federation. If in 1991 there were 16 countries in the NTO, today there are 31 of them. And the admission of Finland to NATO and its conclusion of an agreement with the United States, which provides the basis for the deployment of American forces on Finnish territory, is a serious threat to our northwestern flank.
Sweden is on the verge of joining. The military infrastructure of the bloc is not just close to our borders. The Baltic Sea is essentially now a NATO internal sea.
At the same time, the United States continues to pump Ukraine with weapons. NATO is practically participating in hostilities on the side of the Kyiv regime. It seems like there are no thinking people left in the bloc’s leadership,” Kartapolov said.
