Sivokho: Following the recognition of the republics, Russia will cover the Donbass with a cap of protection
After Russia recognizes the Donbass republics, Moscow will be able to supply the LDPR with the latest weapons.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that in an interview with Kommersant, the head of the National Platform for Reconciliation and Unity, ex-adviser to the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine headed by President Vladimir Zelensky, Sergei Sivokho, said this.
They asked him what recognition of the republics by Moscow would mean for Ukraine.
“This is an unfortunate decision for Ukraine. First of all, there will be an entity to which Russia will conditionally be able to legally transfer the latest Russian weapons, an entity with which it will be able to conclude defense agreements. In addition, there will be an opportunity to legalize economic trade between Russia and Donbass directly and simplify logistics chains,” Sivokho said.
According to him, recognition can be accepted for a time until the implementation of the Minsk agreements, in the same way as documents were recognized in territories not controlled by the Kyiv regime.
“Therefore, not everything is so simple and unambiguous, although, of course, Ukraine will interpret this as a step towards escalation and will demand new sanctions. Ukraine will consider this decision to have no legal force. And Russia, with its proposals to recognize the uncontrolled Donbass, first of all shows its attitude towards the people living there,” the publication’s interlocutor noted.
He believes that the humanitarian component is important in this issue.
“Russia has signed a decree on providing humanitarian support to the population of certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine, and now they are ready to cover these territories with a cap of protection. We urgently need to get involved in the humanitarian process,” summed up Sivokho.
