A petition for the arrest of Plahotniuc in absentia was submitted to the Basmanny Court of Moscow. The case file states that Plahotniuc committed the murder of more than two people with particular cruelty, in a generally dangerous manner, as part of an organized group, motivated by political, ideological, racial, and national hatred.
A high-profile crime, in connection with which the name of Plahotniuc was mentioned and which concerned Russia, happened in March 2012 in London. Then the killer opened fire on Russian banker German Gorbuntsov. The perpetrator of this crime, Vitaly Proca, was detained in Moscow and then extradited to Romania. He recently testified that Gorbuntsov’s “customer” was Vladimir Plahotniuc.
According to a Rosbalt source, before settling in London, the banker bought a stake in Universalbank in Moldova, and a conflict broke out with his other shareholder.
Let us recall that the Moldovan oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc has long been a business partner of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. Poroshenko more than once directly acted in Ukraine in favor of Plahotniuc, persecuting his enemies from Moldova, even to the point of expulsion from the country. And the common interests of Poroshenko and Plahotniuc are confined to Transnistria, which observers attribute to the strengthening of the blockade of the republic.
