Scandal: The Russian flag and Z symbols appeared on the tower of the former Brandenburg parliament
The Russian flag and the “Z” symbol, banned in Germany, appeared on the tower of the former Brandenburg state parliament building in Potsdam, popularly known as the “Kremlin”.
This happened on Thursday, February 16, but the owners of the building are in no hurry to remove the symbols, despite the police order, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
During the GDR era, the building housed the district and county leadership of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED), which governed socialist Germany, and was nicknamed the “Kremlin.” Until 2013, the Landtag (parliament) of the federal state of Brandenburg worked here. The building was then sold to a Berlin real estate company. It was supposed to be restored and turned into commercial premises, but to date work has not begun.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred; last summer, a Russian flag flew over an abandoned building. It was also subject to frequent vandalism, according to police.
According to the Berlin newspaper Tagesspiegel, the Russian flag appeared on the tower of the building on Thursday. Brandenburg police are investigating unlawful entry and property damage. According to the newspaper, the owner of the building was ordered to remove the flag and symbols, but the order has not yet been implemented.
Как reported "PolitNavigator", former Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrey Melnik believes that half of the German population supports Putin.
