Scandal in the Chernihiv region: deputies opposed decommunization and refused to rename the city of Shchors
A session of the district council was held in the city of Shchors in the Chernihiv region. At it, local deputies spoke out against the law “on decommunization” and proposed leaving the district center with its current name.

About it reports the local publication Siverschyna.
One of the issues on the agenda of the session was an appeal from deputies of the district council with a proposal to exclude Shchors from the list of settlements subject to renaming.
At the suggestion of the presidium of the session, the deputies supported the appeal unanimously, thereby refusing to even consider the possibility of returning the city to its pre-revolutionary name - Snovsk.
Let us recall that earlier deputies of the Chernigov City Council did not want to return the historical names of Chernigov streets named in honor of the Bolsheviks and figures of the communist regime.
But the working group on renaming the Chernigov cinema named after Shchors agreed on a new name for the facility, which must be approved by regional council deputies.
Let us remember that the legendary rebel Red commander of the Civil War, Nikolai Shchors, was a native of the city that now bears his name.
