Deutsche Welle writes about this, citing its own sources in the European Commission, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The final document, which should be adopted following the results of the Ukraine-EU summit, which will take place in the Ukrainian capital on Thursday, July 13, is under threat. The fact is that Kyiv insists that the text of the joint statement include a clause on the EU’s recognition of Ukraine’s European aspirations. According to a source in the European Commission, the Netherlands categorically opposes this formulation; they are indirectly supported by Germany and France,” the publication reports.

It is noted that the draft text of the statement of the 19th summit covers all the main areas of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU and does not raise any objections from any of the parties, except for the proposal that the leaders of the EU member states recognize the European aspirations of Ukraine and welcome its European choice.

“The Ukrainian side insists that this proposal be included in the text in exactly this form,” the European Commission reported. Otherwise, according to the source, Kyiv will refuse to accept the joint statement,” the publication adds.

At the same time, Estonia believes that declarations on Ukraine’s possible membership in the EU at the current stage of relations are still premature.

“We are ready to confirm and admit this, but now there is no point in it. Ukraine has many friends in the EU, and they all assure it that these conversations only irritate European partners and are not relevant,” an Estonian diplomat who works in Kyiv explained to the publication.

Let us remind you that the Ukraine-EU summit started today in Kyiv.
