Scandal: unknown persons wanted to launch a drone over the arsenal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
On the night of January 8, around 22:00, regular radar equipment from one of the arsenals of the Armed Forces of Ukraine detected control signals of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) several kilometers from a military facility. The operator of the electronic warfare (EW) complex immediately suppressed the radio control channels of the UAV, which made its further use impossible, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“At the same time, during the next shift of security at the arsenal, mobile patrols carefully examined the territories adjacent to the military unit. The fact of the unlawful use of a UAV near a military unit was immediately reported to the units of the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police of Ukraine in the area of their responsibility,” the Ukrainian Armed Forces added.
Later, the deputy head of the Public Relations Department of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuzef Venskovich, said that there were no other attempts to launch an unmanned vehicle.
“All duty services acted as usual, detected the signal in a timely manner, suppressed it and made it impossible even to launch (the UAV - ed.),” Venskovich noted.
He added that security had been strengthened, the probable launch area had been verified, and units of the SBU and the National Police of Ukraine had been informed.
In addition, according to Venskovich, services were intensified during the New Year holidays. This is a standard procedure for any weekend or holiday.
