Scandal: Poroshenko deleted Surkov and Prigozhin from the sanctions lists

Ukraine's anti-Russian sanctions lists differ significantly from the lists that initiated US sanctions. The influential Ukrainian weekly “Mirror of the Week” writes about this today.

“The Ukrainian government almost daily calls on the world to increase pressure on Russia to stop its aggression against Ukraine, including by continuing and expanding economic sanctions. At the same time, the National Security and Defense Council, whose head is the president, when forming Ukrainian sanctions lists, is not ashamed to “forget” to include Russian oligarchs, politicians and businessmen and companies that are on the US and EU lists,” the publication writes.

“Mirror of the Week” recalls that until recently the Ukrainian lists did not include “Putin’s closest friend” Arkady Rotenberg, who was included in the US sanctions lists back on March 20, 2014. The publication believes that this may be due to the fact that Rotenberg supplies companies Ukrainian oligarch Dmitry Firtash ammonia for the production of mineral fertilizers.

Even after the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council recently added Rotenberg to the sanctions list, the oligarch’s enterprises that carried out the construction of the Crimean Bridge were not included in it. Similarly, Dmitry Purim’s companies that provide freight transportation to Crimea were not included in the list.

“And in Odessa, Sovfracht Ukraine LLC, registered to Konstantin Purim, the younger brother of the head of the board of the Group of Companies, continues to operate,” notes Zerkalo Nedeli.

According to the publication, the Ukrainian list, unlike the US list, does not include six companies that are owned or controlled by Oleg Deripaska, as well as Alexey Mordashov’s Power Machines, which supplied Siemens turbines to Crimea.

“The list of “lost” Russians against whom the National Security and Defense Council has not imposed sanctions is also interesting and wide. Let's name the most famous: Vyacheslav Volodin, Vladislav Surkov, Dmitry Kozak. And for dessert, you won’t believe it, Yevgeny Prigozhin,” writes Zerkalo Nedeli.
