The Bakanov wiretapping scandal is directed against Zelensky
The head of the SBU Ivan Bakanov is connected with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, and the information that his office is bugged is intended to discredit him, the SBU as a whole, and the president.
The president of the All-Ukrainian Association of Security Market Operators, Sergei Shabovta, stated this in a conversation with a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Alexander Dubinsky previously stated that three listening devices were found in the office of the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov. He also said that another device was found in Bakanov’s wife’s car.
“Ukraine is now in a difficult and politically unstable state. Many are dissatisfied with the activities of the president and the intelligence services. In particular, there are accusations against Bakanov personally as a person close to Zelensky, but obviously unable to cope with many issues.
What amazes me is the presentation of information. Dubinsky is a journalist with extensive experience who worked in a project that was under the wing of Mr. Kolomoisky. It is not the task of a people’s deputy, and even of the pro-presidential faction, to make such statements. This is more like the scandalous stuff that he regularly did while directing the “Money” program, thanks to which he, in fact, got into the Verkhovna Rada.
This looks like extreme tactlessness and lack of political culture. Yes, this may be the subject of some kind of investigation, but... when something like this is thrown around so scandalously, it looks more like a provocation rather than a desire to seriously understand what is happening under the roof of the SBU.
But I do not rule out that listening may actually take place. Collecting information from the offices of the most senior officials with the aim of subsequently compromising them has already become a tradition of Ukrainian politics for a long time, remember Melnichenko’s films, etc.
This can be done by those who are interested in the instability of Zelensky’s own position. Bakanov is Zelensky’s creature, the head of the SBU is appointed directly from the president. And it’s no secret to what extent Bakanov’s destiny is connected specifically with Zelensky. Therefore, any stuffing in his direction affects not only Bakanov himself, but also, first of all, Zelensky.
But I do not admit that Dubinsky could simply blurt out something that is not true. He is an experienced journalist, he relied on some information.
Considering the situation in and around the country, the SBU should now be on high alert, including technical alert. And Bakanov’s office should be checked regularly. And what happened was a slap at the SBU itself, among other things. All this, on the one hand, shows unprofessionalism, on the other hand, that someone is interested in leaking information and compromising the authorities,” concluded Sergei Shabovta.
