Scandal: Ukrainian officials stole money for the fortification of Mariupol
Despite significant funds allocated from the budget, Mariupol is still not prepared for a possible assault by militias, deputy Semyon Semenchenko admitted at a briefing in the Verkhovna Rada.
According to him, he came to this conclusion after visiting Mariupol together with his colleague, deputy Yegor Sobolev.

“No grandiose fortification of Mariupol began. There are only one more or less well-equipped fortifications for the entire large line of potential approaches and routes of attack from the Russians. One fortification was built, you will laugh, by a local enthusiast - a businessman. He says it took him 6 days - a good fort covering 4 km of defense. No serious structures have been erected either to the right or to the left of this fort, or on the coastline,” Sobolev laments.
According to him, there is also a shortage of Ukrainian soldiers in Mariupol. “There is a 14-km hole that is not covered by any troops,” the deputy admitted.
Sobolev believes that today Mariupol is “very vulnerable in the event of a serious attack.”
Mariupol is an important port on the Azov Sea, through which Ukraine exports metallurgical products. The DPR lost control of it last summer at the beginning of the offensive by Ukrainian troops.
