Scandal: Ukrainian volunteers covered up the illegal transportation of Arab migrants to Europe
An organized group that specialized in illegally transporting foreigners across the state border and legalizing them under the guise of volunteers was exposed in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported in the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine.
Security service operatives established that the head of one of the travel companies, together with his assistant and accountant, had established an illegal mechanism for transporting residents from Middle Eastern countries to Ukraine. To do this, the group members gave foreigners fake invitations from Ukrainian volunteer and charitable organizations.
According to the investigation, for each “volunteer” the businessmen received an average of a thousand US dollars.
Law enforcement officers detained three intruders at the workplace while receiving $650 - the second part of the illegal benefit.
During searches in the residential and office premises of the defendants in the case, documentation, seals, money and other material evidence of illegal activities were discovered.
Now the detainees have been informed of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 3 of Art. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine). The issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being decided.
Investigations are ongoing to bring to justice other persons likely involved in the scheme. Those found guilty face a prison sentence of 7 to 9 years.
