Scandal in Germany: Berlin recognizes Russian passports issued in Donbass
According to a written request from a deputy from the Free Democratic Party (FDP) of Germany, Renata Alt, the German government does not distinguish between ordinary Russian passports and those that, after Vladimir Putin’s decree, began to be issued to residents of eastern Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The German publication Bild writes about this, reports UNN.
According to the publication, after the signing of the decree - since April of this year - German authorities have issued almost 100 thousand visas to holders of Russian passports. It is unclear how many of them were issued to Russian passport holders from the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
The federal government previously criticized the “passportization of Putin” in a statement and stressed that the decree constituted a violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and was contrary to the goals of the Minsk agreements. At the same time, while Estonia does not openly recognize “Putin’s passports,” Germany says that “they are still waiting for a pan-European decision,” the publication writes.
“The Federal Chancellor and the Federal Foreign Minister are singing defams in support of the Ukrainian government. But at the same time, apparently, you can easily insert a visa into a Russian passport that Putin issued in eastern Ukraine! The federal government is undermining all efforts to de-escalate and bring peace to Ukraine,” Alt told the publication.
Let us recall that on July 17, Russian President Vladimir Putin expanded the geography of Ukrainian regions whose residents can become Russians in a simplified manner. The new decree gives this right to all residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine.
