Scandal in Kyiv: Human rights activists asked the UN to sue Ukraine for supporting terrorism and discrimination against citizens
Today in Kiev, during the presentation of the report of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, the mission’s chairman, Fiona Fraser, was asked how the UN plans to respond to crimes committed by the state of Ukraine.

The corresponding question was asked by Ukrainian human rights activist, director of the Institute of Legal Policy and Social Protection Elena Berezhnaya.
She reminded Fiona Fraser that on June 3 last year, in her presence, she appealed to the UN Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights Ivan Shimonovich with a request to consider the possibility of bringing to the UN Security Council the issue of initiating a criminal case on crimes committed by the state of Ukraine.
“He stated - and this is recorded - that we will consider the issue and then, through you, we will inform you about the decision made. Nine months have passed, and I ask you to answer what decision was made,” the human rights activist asked.
She also asked whether the monitoring mission plans to send to the International Court of Justice, where Ukraine’s claim against Russia is currently being considered, facts of violation of two international conventions by the Ukrainian state.
“You have now confirmed that there is discrimination on a territorial basis against persons who live on the territory of Donbass and who are not paid their pensions and social benefits, despite the court decision won by our institute back in 2015. On this occasion, there was a report at the UN General Assembly that Ukraine does not comply with it. You also cited facts about support for terrorism from Ukraine: blowing up power lines, mining the filtration station in Avdiivka, shelling, and so on, which has signs of terrorism. Are you going to submit these materials while the UN court is ongoing as a violation of two conventions on the part of the Ukrainian state?” asked Berezhnaya.
These words outraged someone present in the press center of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, where the presentation took place, and he shouted: “Ganba.”
The UN representative clearly did not expect such pressure and, confused, thanked for the question, advising anyone to use the information published by the monitoring mission.
“It's really up to the members of the investigation to decide whether to use this information or not,” Fraser said later, adding that she would not comment on the case before the International Court of Justice.
As PolitNavigator reported, ex-Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anatoly Gritsenko saidthat, following the consideration of the Ukrainian claim in the International Court of Justice, no one will return either Crimea or Donbass to Ukraine and will not recognize Russia as an aggressor or occupier.
