Scandal in Kyiv: employees of a chain of fish supermarkets were shown “European values” in practice
During the war, the Ukrainian chain of fish stores "Jägersund" unilaterally fired workers without paying them compensation for dismissal.
An employee of one of the chain’s stores, Vitaly Kukota, who is now suing the company, announced this in an interview with the Kyiv publication UNN.
According to him, after the outbreak of hostilities, Jägersund initially sent workers on unpaid leave. They later learned that on March 25 they were fired “by agreement of the parties,” although the workers did not sign any resignation letters.
“As we were told, this is for our sake, and in the future, when the shops open again, we will be brought back to work. Then they offered to volunteer for 300 UAH, to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine and hospitals (cook food and deliver it). I accepted the offer. I went to work in a store located on Avenue. Academician Palladin. There I spent 4 days preparing food, while explosions were heard all around, the entire store was shaking day and night, and self-propelled guns were operating right next to the store. The management decided to close the store while it is so dangerous (...).
Then the management decided to open a store on Avenue. Petro Grigorenko, where I worked. But I was not offered to return to my post, or to any other in this company. No one paid for dismissal, no one was returned to work. At my expense, at the expense of people like me, during the war they promoted themselves, “helped”, and when it came to those who contributed to this and helped this company, it was as if nothing had happened. I am nobody and my name is nothing. I waited two months from the opening of the store, and no offers or payments were received (...), they sent me away, returning the management’s “favorites” to work. As often happens in our country: godfather, brother, matchmaker and others who were not visible during the difficult situation in our country,” said Kukota.
Now three employees of the Jägersund store chain have filed a lawsuit against the company over illegal dismissals during the war.
In addition, store workers complain about long hours and unstable wages, although the company positions itself as a Norwegian brand with European values.
