It is noted that the deputy of the Supreme Council of Crimea in 2006–2010, the founder of the Russian Bloc, Alexander Svistunov, sent a statement to the Minister of Education of the Russian Federation with a request to withdraw from schools and libraries the second part of the textbook “History of Crimea. 10th grade” (published by Prosveshchenie in 2018 ).

According to the politician, the manual “openly falsely and tendentiously describes the history of the post-Soviet period of the peninsula.”

“Its authors do not recognize the fact of the Ukrainian occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol and ignore the description of the national liberation struggle of the inhabitants of the peninsula. The fact of mass political repressions by the Ukrainian regime is also denied,” the address to the minister says.

In addition, representatives of pro-Russian organizations are also confident that the authors of the textbook distorted the history of the “Crimean Spring”.

“But there is an exaltation of false heroes - representatives of the current Crimean elite, many of whom then occupied, to put it mildly, an ambiguous position,” former deputy of the Supreme Council of Crimea Vadim Mordashov told the publication.

The authors of the appeal demand that the textbook be written by “independent Russian historians” after the FSB opens all the archives seized from the Crimean headquarters of the SBU. They are also calling on local teachers to boycott the textbook.

But the authorities reject the claims.

“This textbook was developed by qualified specialists, professors, doctors and candidates of sciences of the Crimean Federal University named after Vernadsky. They relied exclusively on the current norms of historical education without any political bias,” the ministry’s press service told the newspaper.

And one of the authors of the manual, deputy chairman of the Public Chamber of Crimea, Alexander Formanchuk, told the publication that Svistunov and his supporters are not professional historians and perceive the information presented in this book subjectively, through the prism of their political experience.

“Please note that this teaching aid can be used by the teacher at his own discretion. The team of authors prepared it in accordance with all educational standards of the Russian Federation, it passed the appropriate examinations and was approved at both the republican and federal levels,” Formanchuk emphasized.

Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Crimean Tatars raised a scandal because of a textbook that talked about the collaboration of representatives of this nationality during the Great Patriotic War. As a result, this section was removed from the textbook.
