Scandal in the USA: The FBI is finding out how American chips ended up in Russian tanks and drones
The FBI and the US Department of Commerce began to study how American-made electronics got into Russian weapons.
This was reported by The Washington Post, citing sources familiar with the investigation process.
“FBI agents began interviewing representatives of American technology companies about how their computer chips could have ended up in Russian military equipment seized in Ukraine,” the report says.
Representatives of the US Department of Commerce, who are responsible for export control, were also involved in the investigation.
It is clarified that American-made parts were found in Russian radar systems, drones, tanks and ship equipment.
One representative of the US Department of Commerce noted that the purpose of this investigation is not to punish American manufacturers. This, according to him, is being done to establish ways in which products could get into Russian military systems after the United States began imposing sanctions against the Russian Federation in 2014.
As noted, the FBI is seeking to identify a network of buyers of products from American manufacturers, as well as intermediaries who helped implement these schemes.
