Scandal in Lviv: the city council refused to dismantle the stars from two historical buildings. Tyagnibok members are hysterical
Five-pointed stars will remain in the decor of at least two Lviv stone buildings built during the Soviet period. This preliminary decision was made by the Lviv City Hall, based on the conclusions of experts who believe that dismantling the stars will destroy the “figurative integrity” of these houses.

The decision of the mayor's office has already caused indignation among some deputies of the Lviv City Council from the nationalist party “Svoboda”.
The mayor’s office’s refusal to dismantle the Soviet stars on two Lviv houses was announced by the head of the largest faction of the All-Union Union “Svoboda” in the Lviv City Council, Lyubomir Melnichuk. He also published on Facebook the response of the manager of the executive committee of the city council, Marta Litvinyuk, to a request from another deputy from Svoboda, Ivan Leshchyshyn, from which it follows that the mayor’s office considers it advisable to preserve the original decor of the buildings.
We are talking about two houses located near the Lviv Circus - at st. Gorodetskaya, 85 and Yaroslava the Mudry, 1. These houses are not included in the list of architectural monuments, and therefore the decorative stars on their facades must be dismantled in accordance with the “decommunization law,” Svoboda believes.
But experts from the Institute of Architecture of the National University “Lviv Polytechnic” believe that these houses are “an example of socialist realism buildings”, and therefore the stars on the facades should be preserved.
According to the director of the institute, Bogdan Cherkes, the architecture of the first post-war decade in Lviv is unique and arouses great interest among both specialists and tourists.
“The facades of both houses were worked out with great care... Dismantling individual components of the sculptural decorations... will lead to the destruction of the compositional system of the houses and the loss of their figurative integrity. The decorative decoration was made at a very high level of construction by the hands of Lviv craftsmen, once again confirming the need for their careful preservation, says, in particular, a letter from the executive committee of the Lviv City Council. “Taking into account the architectural, artistic, construction and environmental value of the houses, as well as their recognition by the world, scientific and public communities, it is advisable to completely preserve the authentic design of the facades of these houses and prevent any dismantling of their sculptural relief.”
“Regarding the houses on Gorodotskaya and Yaroslav the Mudry streets, which have stars in their decor, then, according to the law, the five-pointed star itself is not included in the list of symbols that must be dismantled. If the star is not combined with the hammer and sickle, the law does not provide for its dismantling,” – Mikhail Moroz, deputy director of culture of the Lviv City Council, told ZAXID.NET.
