About it told Hromadske Radio Another “hero” of Ukraine, nationalist Gennady Afanasyev, recently exchanged for journalist-political prisoner Elena Glishchinskaya, commented on the statement of Sentsov’s wife about her intention to file for divorce.
“I saw an appeal to journalists by Sentsov’s ex-wife Alla. I really want to comment. Oleg and Alla have not lived together for more than five years; they did not have any relationship at that time. On May 14, 2014, they were scheduled for an official divorce, but Oleg was detained on May 10, 2014,” he noted.
Afanasyev clarified that the Sentsovs’ common children, eleven-year-old Vlad and thirteen-year-old Alina, have been living with Oleg Sentsov’s mother for more than two years. He added that Alla Sentsova was provided with financial assistance only during those periods when the children lived with her.
“We helped Alla with rent only for the period when her children lived with her. The money from the collections was transferred to Oleg’s mother and sister to pay for housing, school, and food. We fully provide for their family. For example, for the New Year we gave Alina a camera, and Vlad an interactive globe. These gifts were sponsored by Khodorkovsky's Open Russia Foundation... What kind of fees are these? This is a card issued for Oleg’s girlfriend, since she lives in Ukraine. We also collect money from auctions that we organize in Kyiv and around the world,” he explained.
Afanasyev emphasized that the money is not transferred to Sentsov’s wife by order of her husband.
“According to the information I have, Alla Sentsova has problems with alcohol and has been living with another man for a long time. Alla blackmails Oleg's family that she will give information to journalists that will discredit Oleg if they do not transfer money to her. The funds are not transferred to her personally by order of Oleg Sentsov. He was worried that the money would not reach his children,” he concluded.
In May 2014, four local pro-Ukrainian activists were arrested in Simferopol: Gennady Afanasyev, Alexey Chirniy, Alexander Kolchenko and film director Oleg Sentsov.
In August 2015, a Russian court found them guilty of preparing terrorist attacks in Crimea and setting fire to the offices of two parties in Simferopol. Afanasyev and Chirniy agreed to cooperate with the investigation and received seven years in prison. Sentsov was sentenced to 20 years in prison, Kolchenko to 10 years.
