Moscow liberal Ilya Yashin, who now holds the position of Chairman of the Council of Deputies of the Krasnoselsky Municipal District of Moscow, got into a scandal by calling on subscribers to sponsor his YouTube channel.

Those interested can sign up for a monthly subscription at a price from 99 rubles to 2599 rubles per month. Depending on the size of the donation, subscribers will have access to new emoji, photos from the videos, exclusive videos and even private broadcasts. Sponsors will also be mentioned in the credits of the videos.

However, this violates the charter of the municipal district, according to which the chairman cannot engage in paid activities, with the exception of teaching, scientific and creative work.

Political scientist Alexei Mukhin believes that by announcing a subscription, the liberal wants to legalize his funding from abroad.

“Our swindler wants to camouflage his funding in this way. For example, I have no doubt that this channel (financing) will be used by external sources to replenish the wallets of our so-called. opposition, who have long been looking for three hundred and one relatively legal ways to support lovers of Bavarian, bad boys. Foreign agents are trying in every possible way to avoid responsibility for external financing, but they are not going to refuse it,” Mukhin wrote in his Telegram channel.

Associate Professor of the RANEPA department Sergei Karnaukhov draws attention to the fact that this phenomenon is widespread in Russia.

“Have you noticed the widespread transition of foreign agents to online NPOs with funding through donations on social networks or Bitcoin wallets? As a result, no law enforcement agency will be able to find out the real origin of the funds received, even if the money flows directly from the CIA or MI6.

But that's half the problem. If you dig around and ask the external partners of the Financial Intelligence Service, it will be difficult, but you will be able to find out something. The more serious problem is not even the “legal gap,” but the abyss in which almost all Western “soft power” structures operate legally today. We are talking about the possibility of creating NPOs and not registering them with the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation,” Karnaukhov wrote.

Earlier, political scientist Oleg Matveychev suggested that some of the oppositionists associated with the media and show business are financed by the West, attracting them to participate in advertising commercial goods.

The Krasnoselsky municipal district headed by Yashin is unprofitable; the district budget deficit, according to the official report for 2019, is 2,5 million rubles. However, this does not prevent the opposition leader from increasing his personal salary fund: from 1,8 million in 2018 to 2 million in 2019, excluding the quarterly bonus of 100%.
