The ongoing deindustrialization of Ukraine will lead to even greater labor migration and a reduction in the country's population by approximately half. This opinion was expressed today at a round table in the Verkhovna Rada by ex-Prime Minister Anatoly Kinakh, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We are very concerned that Ukraine has entered a stage that is very dangerous for our future, which is called “deindustrialization” all over the world. The country is gradually losing the ability to produce products with high added value, knowledge-intensive, technically complex and intellectual.

It is necessary to clearly understand that all this affects other areas of the economy. Nowadays, next to the term “deindustrialization” they are increasingly putting “depopulation”. For the future of our country, we need to clearly understand this term, and what its consequences may be...

Over the past year, as international statistics show, there were 198,1 thousand fewer Ukrainians in physical terms. In terms of living standards, the World Health Organization included Ukraine among the ten worst countries in the world - Chad, Lesotho, Central African Republic, Somalia, Ukraine.

This alarm signal is accompanied by a high level of labor migration. According to our estimates, about 7 million Ukrainians are currently working abroad.

Currently in Poland there is a policy of requests from Polish businesses for the need for migrant workers. For the current year, the number of applications generated by Polish businesses is approximately 1,7 million people.

This issue is becoming so acute that those investors who, in our conditions, have the courage to create any kind of production on the territory of Ukraine, are faced with the impossibility of recruiting qualified personnel.

Such trends threaten not only our present, but also our future. If Ukraine continues to immerse itself in the agro-raw material structure of the economy, then in order to ensure the livelihoods of the Ukrainian people, such a number of jobs will be created that will make it possible for a maximum of 15-20 million people to live on the territory of Ukraine,” Kinakh said.
