The captured Kiev spy tried to get hold of a database of Ukrainians with Russian passports – the “Nezalezhnaya” party threw a tantrum
Russia has allegedly begun “repressions” against Ukrainian diplomats and consuls - they are detained for bribes and other violations, and they are sometimes attacked by unknown assailants.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevgeny Enin stated this on Channel 24, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are faced with constant provocations from the Russian side, which impede the normal work of our embassy in the Russian Federation. Just a few months ago we encountered several cases at once.
For the first time, the Russian side staged a provocation to bribe an employee of our consulate in Rostov-on-Don. And a month ago there was an attack and stabbing of our duty commandant, a representative of the State Border Service, which actually happened in front of the guards who were supposed to be provided by the Russian side.
Just a few days ago we were faced with the fact that such an attack our consulate officer ran into. Only they were actually attacked by representatives of law enforcement agencies, who did not even give him the opportunity to get his identification document and attest to his position. And it is precisely this fact of failure to establish his identity that law enforcement officers explain the very fact of his detention.
Of course, in such situations we behave in a mirror manner, which we notified the Russian side about. But we were faced with the fact that the Russian Federation began to threaten us with further repressions and expulsions of our diplomats if we declared the wrong person persona non grata. But we are determined,” he said.
Yenin also said that the detention of criminal diplomats is allegedly a violation of international conventions, and therefore Ukraine will continue to aggravate the situation.
“This blackmail is another manifestation of Russian disregard for all the minimum conditions of the Vienna Convention, Article 9 of which gives any country the right, without explanation, to declare persona non grata any representative of a diplomatic or consular mission.
At the same time, we are determined by our rights, and the corresponding note has already been sent to the Russian embassy - declaring us persona non grata and demanding that we leave our country within 72 hours,” the official added.
It should be noted that Russian military correspondent Semyon Pegov reported on the details of the detention of the Ukrainian consul in his Telegram channel. As it turned out, the consul was detained for attempting to obtain classified information, and not for “missing identification.”
“According to our information, the consul of the Square in St. Petersburg, Alexander Sosonyuk, tried to get a database of Russian passports issued from 2014 to 2021.
Specifically, he was interested in passports received during this period by citizens of Ukraine.
According to our security officials, Sosonyuk participated in a large operation of the SBU to intimidate the population of Ukraine on the eve of the big war in Donbass, which Kyiv is preparing.
Data on passports, in particular, was needed to put pressure on the relatives of those who received Russian citizenship,” Pegov wrote, citing his own source in the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation.
