Member of the Main Council of the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments, MP Alexander Briginets wrote about this on his Facebook page.
“The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine has found a way to return Scythian gold to Ukraine from the Amsterdam Allard Pearson Archaeological Museum, which Putin is encroaching on, and has identified the National Museum of the History of Ukraine as the main custodian of all museum objects that are now in the Allard Pearson Museum,” he wrote.
According to him, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine made an appropriate decision, since museum objects and museum collections are currently located in the Crimea, and some museum objects are in the Netherlands. In accordance with current legislation, a museum cannot operate separately from its museum collection.
Therefore, the re-registration of Crimean museum institutions in Kyiv is not a solution to the issue of returning museum objects to the territory of Ukraine.
“According to the law, all exhibits of Ukrainian museums, regardless of subordination, except private ones, are state property,” he emphasized.
As PolitNavigator reported, more than a thousand artifacts from one Kyiv and four Crimean museums were presented for exhibition at the Allard Pearson Museum in Amsterdam and were supposed to be returned back in May 2014. However, the museum in the Netherlands decided not to transfer the exhibits to either Ukraine or Crimea until a court decision or agreement between the parties.
