A squabble among Ukrainian dissenters turned Poroshenko into a criminal defendant
Petro Poroshenko actually appears in a criminal case opened on the basis of a statement about “inciting ethnic hatred by obtaining a Tomos.”
It was initiated not by believers of the Moscow Patriarchate, but by adherents of the former main schismatic Mikhail “Filaret” Denisenko, who, after the deal with Istanbul, found himself removed from the management of the schismatic structure. This was stated on the website of the UOC-KP, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The report says that Filaret “did not contact law enforcement agencies and was not the initiator” of open criminal proceedings.
“This was done by believers whose rights were violated. Filaret did not oppose the existence of the OCU, but he is against the dependence of this Church on the Patriarchate of Constantinople,” the press service emphasized.
Filaret also claims that the purpose of the criminal case is “to protect the violated right to freedom of conscience of believers and the clergy of the Kyiv Patriarchate, and not to terminate the activities of the OCU.”
The statement was commented on by ex-candidate for mayor of Odessa Vyacheslav Azarov.
“Extremely symptomatic explanations of the UOC-KP of its claim against Poroshenko for inciting inter-religious hatred and Tomos. Filaret’s supporters claim that the president deceived them, and the OCU, in violation of the agreement, is taking away church property. A colorful illustration of the struggle for independence of the Maidan regime.
The old fools who fell for this bait simply did not realize that the West cannot fight for anyone’s sovereignty, but only subdues weak countries under this pretext. As a result, they were all removed from power and replaced by obedient governors of external administration,” explains Azarov.
