Bandera UPA militant Miroslav Simich, who was recently awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine, died today.

The mayor of Kolomyia, Bogdan Stanislavsky, where Simich lived, announced this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

It is known about Simić that he joined the militants in 1941 and became a machine gunner. Under his leadership, in 1945, near Kosmach, militants attacked NKVD troops led by Major General Nikolai Dergachev.

In total, Ukrainian sources report that Simic participated in 42 episodes of attacks on Soviet military personnel. He was arrested in 1948, the militant spent 32,5 years in the camps.

In 2017, he was rehabilitated, and last year, on the 80th anniversary of the creation of the UPA, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky awarded him the title of hero.
