Klimenko called Pilunsky an epoch-making person and spoke about his work as a representative of the exotic Crimean Ukrainians.

“Goodbye, old friend. I will cite here several facts little known to the general public, which were summarized by another of our comrades. Without exaggeration, a whole era in the history of Crimea is connected with him - Leonid Pilunsky. Marine mechanic who traveled around the world on ships. One of the first five leaders of underwater and rescue vehicles in the USSR. Famous Crimean rock climber and speleologist. A journalist whose radio programs “For those at sea” and “Island of Crimea” were literally listened to by the whole country,” says the Maidan activist.

“The best editor of Crimean Svetlitsa - he was published in all the main newspapers of Ukraine, often causing resonance at the level of a scandal. It was reprinted and sarcastically commented on by Putin’s Russia. Founder and leader of the Crimean organization of the People's Movement. Chernovol's close and faithful friend. Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, government official. One of the organizers and leaders of the Crimean Euromaidan in 2013,” Klimenko wrote.

Let us remember that during the “Russian Spring” Pilunsky was a deputy of the Crimean parliament of the last Ukrainian convocation. He is actively opposed reunification peninsula with Russia and stopped attending meetings of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea when Crimea became part of the Russian Federation. After this, Pilunsky withdrew from active participation in politics and remained to live in Russian Crimea.

Formerly PolitNavigator wrote about Pilunsky’s activities when he was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Crimean Svetlitsa”.
