A high-ranking intelligence officer on the US sanctions list has died
In Moscow, at the age of 63, the head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Igor Korobov, died.
This was reported by the TV channel of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation “Zvezda”, a correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
It is noted that Korobov died after a serious and long illness, however, what exactly the deceased was ill with is not specified.
Korobov became the second head of Russian military intelligence to die suddenly in the last three years. His predecessor in this position, Igor Sergun, passed away at the 59th year of his life in the Moskvich rest home of the FSB of the Russian Federation after a massive heart attack on January 3, 2016.
It is known that Igor Korobov, as part of his position, exercised general direction over the actions of Russian military intelligence officers during the Russian military operation in Syria.
The high-ranking Russian intelligence officer was not liked in the United States - he was sanctioned twice there - on December 29, 2016, in connection with “actions to undermine democracy in the United States” and on September 20, 2018, “for interference” in the 2016 American elections.
