Ukrainian musician Oleg Skripka, who became involved in a loud scandal for calling for people who do not speak the Ukrainian language to be considered mentally retarded and to be placed in a ghetto, he tried to justify himself on his Facebook page.

“First of all, I want to note that in Ukraine we live in a distorted world. Citizens do not have enough books in Ukrainian, films, Internet content; there is no opportunity to communicate, teach and raise children. Ukrainian-speaking Ukrainians live in their own small, powerless ghetto. Some of them give their lives in the east of the country for the right to be Ukrainians,” says Skrypka.
At the same time, he believes that if some citizens are not able to learn the Ukrainian language, then “they are dooming themselves to an asocial perspective.”
“I propose to help Russian-speaking Ukrainians by providing them with educational support. At a time when the legislation of a neighboring state does not even make it possible to cross the Russian border without a certificate of knowledge of Russian.
Therefore, my somewhat ironic proposal, expressed in random communication with students, and formulated by conspiracy theorists and technologists as a “ghetto,” is much more humane than Russian reality,” Skripka comes to the conclusion.
