"God bless! We are saved,” it became known that Poroshenko exclaimed upon learning about the downed Boeing.
MGIMO professor Valery Solovey told the radio station “Echo of Moscow” what the reaction of the President of Ukraine was to the message that a Malaysian Boeing was shot down over Donbass.

“When Poroshenko was reported (he was sitting at the National Defense Security Council of Ukraine), they brought him a message that a plane had been shot down, he crossed himself and said: “Thank God, Ukraine is saved.” Maybe Mr. Poroshenko will confirm this fact over time,” Solovey said.
At the same time, he called the death of the Boeing a “fatal accident.”
“On their agenda was the question of how many days the Ukrainian army would hold out if the separatists, these volunteers, started attacking Mariupol and beyond. And how they will begin to break through the corridor. Now, this is a fatal accident, after which, you remember, sanctions were introduced not for Crimea, but sanctions specifically for Donbass, and they turned out to be quite burdensome. After that, the situation changed,” the expert noted.
