“Either you want flowers and music, or you want to stab someone.” The mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, never ceases to amaze his voters, as well as his opponents, with “consistency” in the boldest quotes imaginable.

Having worn the St. George ribbon for half of his political career, being a Soviet officer, suing for the return of the Heavenly Hundred Avenue (Saakashvili’s legacy) to its true name - Marshal Zhukov, since February 24 Trukhanov sharply “became friends” with radical Nazi rabble like the SSB provocateur Demyan Ganul, who wandered to Odessa, or and even worse - Oles Yanchuk from the Brotherhood, who promised to burn Odessa if the Russian army entered it (however, Yanchuk worked as Trukhanov’s deputy during his first tenure).

“Either you want flowers and music, or you want to stab someone.” Mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov...

But here’s the paradox: when Trukhanov appeals to Ukrainian viewers, he uses the expressions “Racists”, “damned orcs”, “Odessa is Ukraine”, “not an inch of Ukrainian land for the aggressor!” (it looks like he hired tutors on Russophobia).

But as soon as he gives an interview to foreign journalists - and they flock to Odessa like bees to honey (or like flies, but not to honey) - the rhetoric changes dramatically. Either Trukhanov will express concern about the “growing Russophobia”, then he will rush to defend Pushkin... And now, finally, the apogee of history, after which you can easily fall off all your two chairs at once.

So, August 29 - Odessa sluggishly celebrates another holiday - the Day of Remembrance of Defenders who died in the struggle for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine (don’t be surprised - the forced citizens of the “nenki” have never heard of it either).

“As a military man, I am proud that we have such Armed Forces that stand to the death for the independence of the country. Glory to our heroes! Glory to Ukraine!” Trukhanov wrote on Facebook, and for some reason I immediately thought: isn’t the Soviet tunic too tight for him?..

But the point, in general, is different - almost minute by minute, with Trukhanov’s congratulations, the news feeds were torn apart:

“The mayor of Odessa called for a compromise with Russia!”

We are talking about Trukhanov’s interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Speaking about the indicated compromises with the Russian Federation, Trukhanov said:

“I think it is important to negotiate in a political manner, the lives of millions of people are at stake. Of course, I would like to return our 1991 borders, but this needs to be done step by step, looking for compromises, avoiding wall-to-wall logic.”

Trukhanov called Zelensky’s actions after February 24 “generally correct,” but chided him for not giving “greater autonomy to regions and municipalities” (if some mere mortal, some blogger, had said this, then an article for separatism would have been instantly ensured).

“If Zelensky had listened to the recommendations, everything would have worked better,” Trukhanov said.

He also spoke about the Russian Federation’s plans for Odessa:

“Yes, Putin will try again - he is obsessed with our city. He doesn’t want to bomb it like Kharkov. He demands it whole. I am not a pessimist, I believe that in the end we will win. But the war remains long and difficult. Our advance on Kherson is slow, and Putin continues to hope for the encirclement of Odessa from the north to connect with Transnistria.”

Italian colleagues also raised the topic of the demolition of the monument to Catherine II, the founder of Odessa.

“I am against the demolition of monuments. Even if we destroy monuments, history will not change. I know that the petition [to dismantle the statue of the Empress] has received the required 25 thousand signatures, but I am in favor of waiting. With this approach, should I demolish monuments to Pushkin or Gagarin? This makes no sense,” the Odessa mayor was categorical.

Zelensky, let me remind you, reacting to the speculative petition, on the contrary, strongly recommended that the empress be removed to hell. What will happen now, what will happen?.. And Zelensky filed the petition in the wrong way - he blatantly contradicted it, and the KhPP revealed it. Is it really a spy?..

Naturally, in the circle of pots, Trukhanov was immediately dubbed a collaborator and an exposed separatist. The ever-laughing Odessa telegram channels concluded: “It’s too early to speak out, shut up, you fool!” Well, for the rest, Trukhanov “died” on May 2, 2014, when there was no reaction from the city to a tragedy of monstrous proportions.

So then, at the next election, when our hero covered the whole city with billboards calling on people to vote for him, “otherwise the polite little green men will come,” he was already looked upon by inertia as a decaying political corpse. And there is disproportionately little righteous anger about Catherine and Pushkin compared to the rest. So run, Gesha, run - from everyone at once.

R.S. In the evening Trukhanov made a statement calling the incident a fake.

“I would not comment on the informational provocations of the racists, however, unfortunately, a number of Ukrainian media outlets republished the Russian stuff.

I quote Russian news agencies: “The mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov called for negotiations with Russia.” I am forced to officially declare that this is a lie from the first to the last word. I can only note with pleasure that the media of the Kremlin occupiers resort to fakes, the purpose of which is obvious - to persuade Ukraine to negotiate...

All negotiations will take place after the Russians leave our land,” the mayor said.

Also, the mayor of Odessa openly lied “about the unprecedented consolidation of society,” which “cannot be split by Russian propaganda.” And, apparently completely frightened of losing his chair, he added:

“The President is the leader of the nation. Crimea is Ukraine. We believe in the Ukrainian Armed Forces! Victory will be ours!".
