The defeat of the Russian national hockey team against the Finns in the finals of the Olympic Games in Beijing has not yet gotten over. We scored one, but missed two. And here is a new wave of negativity. And a new massacre.

Anton Slepyshev, forward of CSKA and the Russian national team, wrote an absolutely epic post that blew up, as they say, the media space. I will quote it with edits:

The defeat of the Russian national hockey team against the Finns in the final hasn’t gotten over yet...

“I want to say a real thank you to those who truly believed in us! It was a team! And we did everything in our power! Thanks everyone for the silver! We won it! All the shit-eaters, haters, evaluators, everyone who criticized us throughout the tournament and waited even before the final for our misfire, the majority of the Russian media, this is your bread! Chew! Don't choke!

Such a sharp, nerve-wracking statement caused a flurry of criticism. Dmitry Guberniev, for example, said that it would be better if Slepyshev played hockey instead of practicing wit on social networks. Guberniev? Dmitriy? Whose cow would moo, as they say. However, he was not the only one who was harshly critical of Anton. Many became furious.

Did Slepyshev play with dignity? Or as Guberniev hints? Anton scored against the Swiss in the opening match - not without the help of a rebound. But in the semi-final with the Swedes, Slepyshev decided it himself, scoring a goal after a solo pass. Unfortunately, the final was unsuccessful, as was the case for the entire Russian team. Especially for the third line, where Voronkov and Karnaukhov played together with Anton.

In general, I must say, it was a very strange team that did not play, but rather fought, struggled, endured, worked.

A very attentive defense, where the future superstar Nikishin from Spartak Moscow appeared. Great goalkeeper Fedotov from CSKA, who became, without a doubt, our best player. But with the attack it turned out somehow boring, sad. Here the bet was made on, as they say, workhorses like Chibisov, Tkachev, Plotnikov. There weren’t many creative people: Shipachev, Grigorenko, Gusev. The first two failed, definitely, but Nikita, the 2018 Olympic champion, seemed to give the most assists, but did not shine that much. But young Gritsyuk opened up.

In general, Slepyshev is right that our team won silver. With luck, yes, but we won. And this, in fact, is our Russian limit. Unfortunately, that's the case for now. There are many reasons for this, the main one being the games of “big corporations” and “big bosses” for the right to individually manage Russian hockey.

Well, plus this sport is expensive, not everyone can afford it. And success here largely depends on the money invested in players; We look at the young talent Matvey Michkov and understand the truth of these words.

But there is, perhaps, another reason for the team’s not-so-enchanting performance. And here Slepyshev, despite the catastrophic harshness of his words, is one hundred percent right. Our players were bullied, humiliated, and bonfired (continue the series) by their own fans and journalists. I myself spent the Olympic days on sports resources and saw a trash heap. Honestly, I can’t imagine that in Canada, Sweden, Finland people throw mud at their teams like that. Actually, they didn’t water it - I checked. Yes, of course, “guests from Ukraine” tried to use our resources, but Russian citizens were also different.

Unfortunately, this is a trend that has long become the norm. And not only in sports. The situation with Kamila Valieva revealed this in all its unsightly light. There is clearly a systemic problem here. The problem that Vasily Rozanov wrote about: “The French have “chere France”, the British have “Old England”, the Germans have “our old Fritz”. Only those who went through a Russian gymnasium and university have “damned Russia.”

So Slepyshev, albeit harshly, called things by their proper names. After all, they, critics and hype-eaters, even came up with a word and use it - “hate”. I’m not surprised, you know, that the word is not Russian, because rooting against your own people, insulting and crap on them, is not at all Russian. And these are issues not only of sports, but also of moral and national education. How are we doing with them? Same thing.
