According to the Mejlis member, he refused to be examined voluntarily, and therefore the investigator applied to the court for the appropriate permission.
“On May 12, a criminal case was opened under Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for extremism. It sounds something like this – public calls for violation of the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation using the Internet. This article carries a sentence of five years in prison, but during the investigative measures the investigator issued a decision to conduct a psychological examination. When I consulted with lawyers and looked at the articles of the Criminal Code, it turned out that this is a voluntary event, and they cannot force it except through the court,” Umerov said.
