“It’s going off the rails.” Zelensky has acquired a taste for political repression
The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine decided to check the circumstances of the preparation and ratification of the Kharkov agreements, which extended the stay of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea, since President Vladimir Zelensky has acquired a taste for using this body for repressions against political opponents.
Political scientist Kirill Molchanov stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is very difficult to logically analyze absolutely limitless things - even a first-year law student understands that in Ukraine, as in any legal country, there is no individual responsibility for the actions of a collegial body. You can read Article 80 of the Constitution, which states that deputies are not responsible for their votes.
By the way, I’m not sure that this is a purely PR action. It seems to me that Bankova really went completely off the rails and continued to do what they were doing. These people introduced sanctions against their own citizens, which, to put it mildly, is not entirely legal, now they have decided to persecute who knows who. Akhmetov, who voted? Or Speaker Lytvyn? This is stupid because he is neither a competitor to the authorities nor some kind of toxic character.
I think that if this is all being done solely with the topic of updating the problem of the annexation of Crimea and the “Crimean Platform” created in the future, then it would probably be more logical to start prosecuting not for the Kharkov agreements, but Turchynov, who in the famous transcript of the National Security and Defense Council never gave no orders to our military in 2014 to protect Crimea. If the special services began to take it into circulation, then, probably, it would give more of an electoral bonus to Zelensky and the “servants of the people” than some Kharkov agreements, which society has already forgotten.
But, as we see, this entire institution of NSDC meetings, which take place on Thursdays or Fridays, is simply a classic political reprisal against opponents. Zelensky liked this style, when he can prosecute his opponents without trial and investigation, and they will continue to do this,” Molchanov concluded.
