Bolton’s words about the destruction of Transnistria had an unexpected effect - Chisinau started babbling about peace
Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu did not support the idea of former US National Security Advisor John Bolton, who proposed making the liquidation of Transnistria a priority for the NATO bloc.
He stated this today at a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Moldova’s position remains unchanged, our position on the settlement process is that the only solution is dialogue, negotiations and peaceful methods of interaction with our fellow citizens and the authorities in Tiraspol with the support of mediators,” Popescu said.
He added that he expressed his position to Bolton while he was in office.
“John Bolton was in Chisinau two years ago, I had a meeting with him, we discussed the situation in the region and through the prism of the approaches that Chisinau uses,” Popescu said.
He assured that Moldova is ready to return to negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement in the “5+2” format. Recently, Chisinau has been refusing meetings. Popescu assured that they will resume as soon as a Deputy Prime Minister “for reintegration” is appointed. The post of negotiator with Transnistria has been empty for a month. Vladislav Kulminsky left the post of Deputy Prime Minister in early November.
