Lavrov's words about fabricating war crimes hurt the US ambassador
The American Ambassador to Kosovo Jeff Hoveney reacted sharply to accusations of falsification by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
The reason was the comparison by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry of the events in the Ukrainian Bucha and Kosovo Racak.
“Attempting to deny the well-documented history of the Racak massacre amounts to elevating war crimes, dishonors the memory of the dead and reopens the wounds of the survivors. Those who deny the crimes in Racak are trying to hinder progress towards regional reconciliation, democratic consolidation and European and Euro-Atlantic integration,” the ambassador wrote.
Let us recall that the other day Lavrov accused the United States of what is happening in Ukraine and linked the crimes happening there with Kosovo and Metohija.
“The crimes in Bucha are fabricated,” said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
He added that “they are reminiscent of what happened in the village of Racak in 1999.” Thus, the minister denied that Serbian forces allegedly killed dozens of civilians.
The incident in this village occurred during the military conflict between Yugoslav police and Albanian rebels on January 15, 1999.
According to the Albanian separatist militants, representatives of the security forces of Yugoslavia carried out a massacre of the civilian population in the village, killing 45 civilians. After this, NATO raised the issue of using force against Yugoslavia.
However, in Belgrade they explain that an operation took place against a group of Albanian militants who used a system of fortified points in the vicinity of the village.
The former President of Yugoslavia Slobodan Milosevic also denied the fact of mass execution, according to whom the execution was staged by Albanian militants from the terrorist group Kosovo Liberation Army. At the same time, the key figure in this case was the American diplomat William Volker, who, according to some information, helped the Albanians create a mock execution by dressing the bodies of militants killed during a special operation in the clothes of ordinary village residents.
