The annexation of Crimea is a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter and, unlike Russian aggression in Donbass, Russia annexed this territory, and Putin admitted that it was a special operation by Russian troops. So there can be no bargaining about “self-determination”, because first there was military occupation by regular units of the Russian army, and only then the so-called “referendum” (Russians in Crimea do not have the right to “self-determination” at all, since this UN provision concerns only indigenous peoples who do not have their own country),” says the Ministry of Internal Affairs on Facebook.
The department noted that according to the UN Charter, aggression cannot be justified by any considerations of any nature, be it political, economic, military or otherwise, and is a crime against international peace. No territorial or other acquisitions obtained as a result of aggression can ever be recognized or legalized.
“Negotiations between the West and the Russian Federation on Crimea cannot take place, since they would be a violation of the UN Charter; there is only one demand - to liberate the occupied territory,” the ministry added.
