According to Tsegolko, Norway previously officially made the same decision, but it “does not count” because it is not part of the EU.
The adopted anti-Russian document was announced during the official visit of Petro Poroshenko to Slovenia, at the invitation of the country's President Borut Pahor.
The presidents of the two countries emphasized that “the annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation is a gross violation of international law. Therefore, the Republic of Slovenia remains committed to non-recognition of the illegal annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation.”
Also, Kyiv and Ljubljana expressed their determination to “intensify political and diplomatic efforts in order to preserve the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine and protect the rights of Ukrainian citizens throughout Ukraine, including the protection of the rights of the Crimean Tatars.”
Poroshenko and Pakhor condemned “the act of aggression on the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine” and called on the Russian Federation to “immediately stop providing financial, military and other assistance to local separatists.”
In addition, Slovenia pledged to “continue to make efforts to restore the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine” and “to support the EU sanctions policy towards the Russian Federation.”
Also in the joint declaration of the presidents of Ukraine and Slovenia, they expressed their “strong and effective support for the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine in the implementation of its mandate, including its full and unhindered access to the entire territory of Ukraine and the Russian-Ukrainian state border.”
Finally, Kyiv obtained from Ljubljana public support for its course towards joining NATO, of which Slovenia is already a member.
