Servants of the People disowned contacts with the Russian Duma
The Servant of the People party, as well as the people’s deputies elected from it, did not hold any consultations with representatives of the Russian legislative or executive authorities, the party emphasizes, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We do not plan such consultations in the future, with the exception of established international formats, within which such contacts cannot be avoided,” the party’s press service said.
Servant of the People indicated that negotiations with Russia on behalf of Ukraine can only be conducted by the President of Ukraine or persons authorized to conduct such negotiations in accordance with his orders and current legislation.
“Deputies elected from the Servant of the People party have been warned about the inadmissibility of personal contacts with current representatives of the Russian government. Even attempts to establish such contacts will be considered a violation of factional discipline and party principles,” the political force explained.
The position of the Servant of the People regarding contacts with representatives of the Russian authorities can only be changed if progress is achieved in de-escalating the situation in relations between the countries - the release of Ukrainian sailors, prisoners of war and political prisoners, and a sustainable ceasefire in the Donbass, the party noted.
Earlier today, Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky expressed readiness to exchange visits between the parliaments of Russia and Ukraine and establish full-scale contacts.
“Some (of the Ukrainian deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of the new convocation - Ed.) have already gotten in touch and are starting to work,” Slutsky said, answering a question about contacts with the new composition of the Verkhovna Rada.
Answering the question about who exactly came into contact with State Duma deputies, he said: “I mean exactly Zelensky’s bloc (“Servant of the People” - Ed.), but I will not name names, nor, if you allow me, I will name, for obvious reasons, the names of some US congressmen with whom we are also in close contact.”
