The mayor of Krivoy Rog, Konstantin Pavlov, was most likely killed for business reasons, and this is a very bad signal both for the authorities and for society as a whole, because it indicates that the level of violence in the country is growing.

The head of the Third Sector center, Andrei Zolotarev, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“I would not rush into versions regarding this death. We have already seen recently when, after the death of a Belarusian oppositionist, representatives of one political camp “conducted an investigation” and “passed a verdict” in 15 minutes.

Now, to my deep regret, we see the same picture - as they say, the blood has not yet cooled, but on the OPZZH website a statement has already appeared that this is a terrorist act, about “executioners acting in the interests of the authorities,” and so on.

This is all vocabulary in the spirit of the Stalinist trials of the thirties. And this is worst of all in such cases when we see signs of political sectarianism, which does not care what happened or how things are.

It is clear that three versions will be developed. A criminal case has been opened under Article 115, this is premeditated murder - the first version. They will also consider such versions as careless handling of weapons and suicide.

But Konstantin Pavlov did not give the impression of a man who, at the slightest difficulties in life, would reach for a weapon to shoot himself. He was a morally strong and cheerful person. Therefore, the version of suicide is not very convincing.

I would not rush to talk about a politically motivated murder, given that Krivoy Rog is a city where there are a lot of resources and, accordingly, a lot of conflicts. And in our country, as we know, people kill, first of all, for money.

If we consider the version of the murder, then I would, first of all, work out the Krivoy Rog connections of the deceased. Most likely, politics has a very indirect relationship to this.

But for Zelensky, what happened is a very alarming, serious signal. I think he understands this very well. Seven years ago, the mayor of Kremenchug Babaev was killed, this was in 2014. This is the first time that the mayor of such a large city as Krivoy Rog has been killed.

It is clear that an investigation that does not convince the public will be a negative for the president. But the worst thing is that political violence, unfortunately, is returning to business political life.

Many have started talking about the return of the nineties. And with the presence of a huge amount of weapons and a huge number of people who went through the war, the presence of paramilitary formations, all this is an explosive, explosive mixture that can spill out into the street at any moment,” the political scientist concluded.
