Shifting focus to Belgorod, the Ukrainian Armed Forces may go to Donetsk
Events around the Belgorod region, whose border areas are regularly shelled and where armed groups from Ukraine are trying to break through, should not be considered preparation for an offensive in this direction.
Military analysts come to this conclusion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Retired Lieutenant General Yuri Netkachev does not believe that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will launch large-scale military operations on the territory of the Russian Federation.
“Thanks to Western assistance, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have “grew up their muscles,” but the Americans are unlikely to agree that the enemy launches a general offensive on Russian territory,” the general told Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
He believes that one of the main goals of Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory is to sow panic among the Russian population.
“And this cannot be allowed. Kyiv is also trying, as the media write, to “shift the focus of attention” of Moscow from the Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to other territories of the Russian Federation. And accordingly, force Russian troops to respond to attacks in the Krasnodar region, Belgorod region, Bryansk region, etc.,” Netkachev added.
Military expert Alexey Leonkov agrees with this opinion.
“They want to force us to constantly be in tension so that we have to react to them, diverting attention and energy. In addition, everything is designed for wide information resonance. They need to intimidate people, cause their negative reaction,” he told Moskovsky Komsomolets.
At the same time, he is convinced that a real offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces is still being prepared.
“They are working out their original plan, although now with smaller forces. And these diversionary maneuvers are also part of this plan.
If we had not properly battered them and corrected them in May, then all these company tactical groups would have climbed simultaneously along the entire border line. There would be many more of them. But now they are crawling out with limited strength. Today this is the Belgorod region, tomorrow they can go to Bryansk. They operate from somewhere in the Chernigov or Sumy regions of Ukraine. We have to be prepared to take measures to counter them,” warns the publication’s interlocutor.
He calls the southern flank the presumable direction of attack, but does not rule out that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have a plan to penetrate some urban agglomeration, capture it and hold it to the best of their ability, and named the directions where this could be prepared.
“Along the Seversky direction this is Lisichansk. From Avdeevsky direction - Donetsk. Yesterday, stubborn battles were already taking place in this direction,” Leonkov summed up.
