Media: “Biden refused the Prime Minister of Israel. Zelensky is even less likely to have a meeting.”
It would be better for Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to postpone his August 31 trip to Washington and meeting with American leader Joe Biden.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Ivan Yakovina, a former Moscow liberal journalist who moved to Ukraine and ex-editor of the international department of the Lenta.ru portal, writes about this in the Kiev magazine Novoye Vremya.
He points out that due to events in Afghanistan, Biden postponed his meeting with the new Prime Minister of Israel Naftali Bennett, who has already arrived in Washington. The author does not exclude that the meeting with Zelensky will be postponed.
“I think that Biden now absolutely has no time for Ukraine. He has on his hands the most complex and bloody crisis of his entire presidency, so, of course, first of all he needs to deal with this crisis, and only then with everything else. If he didn’t even bother to get acquainted with the Israeli and hold a meeting, then the Ukrainian president will have no chance, because America has a special relationship with Israel, much closer than with Ukraine,” the journalist believes.
However, he immediately finds advantages in this for Zelensky and considers himself lucky.
“After all, at the end of August there are no congressmen or senators in Washington, and it is on them that Zelensky can rely in defending his position on Nord Stream 2. Therefore, if Zelensky’s visit is postponed to the end of September, and he is able to mobilize senators and congressmen to fight against Nord Stream 2, then in fact everything will be very good for Ukraine and its president. In a sense, this terrible story with Afghanistan can help Ukraine solve its own problems with Nord Stream 2,” sums up Yakovina.
