Media: “The Georgian people are satisfied with Saakashvili sitting in prison”
The Georgian opposition, which lost the local elections, whose leader is considered to be imprisoned ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, can only hope for a coup d'etat, the likelihood of which, however, is unlikely.
Moskovsky Komsomolets writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
There is no “revolutionary situation” in Georgia today. The opposition has only one scenario in stock: a coup d'etat. But the current Georgian authorities are not the late Shevardnadze, and if Saakashvili’s supporters decide on a forceful scenario, they will not stand on ceremony with them. By the way, a criminal case has already been opened regarding an attempted coup with the participation of Saakashvili, probably, after the elections he will be given a move,” the newspaper notes.
The author of the material believes that Sakashvili “will be given more than one new term,” despite his Ukrainian citizenship, and will not be handed over to Kyiv and will not be released, so as not to disappoint the electorate of the ruling party.
“There is PR, and there is harsh reality. Saakashvili has been broadcasting for years that he has amazing support in Georgia, that Georgians only dream of throwing off the hated regime of the “Russian oligarch” Ivanishvili and continuing the best reforms in the world under his leadership. We see the result: the UNM suffered a serious defeat, Saakashvili is in prison, and the Georgian people seem to be happy with this,” MK summarizes.
As PolitNavigator reported, in the second round of municipal elections in Georgia in 19 out of 20 cities the ruling party won.
