Crimean media and scientists criticize the “crazy idea” of the authorities to develop the Ai-Petri plateau
The intention of the Yalta administration to develop the protected Ai-Petri plateau, in particular, by building a ski resort, campsites and parking lots there, is the craziest idea, writes the weekly New Crimea.

“The Ai-Petrinskoye Plateau is part of the Yalta Mountain Forest Nature Reserve, where any activity other than educational and scientific is prohibited. Officials motivate this proposal by the fact that it is necessary to replenish the local budget, expand services for tourists and recreationists, etc. It would be better if they started creating conditions for a comfortable stay below!” Tatyana Bobra, associate professor of the Department of Geoecology at the Vernadsky Crimean Federal University, noted in an interview with the publication.
From the point of view of an ecologist, she emphasized, the Crimean yayls must be left alone, because these are resource-saving, resource-reproducing territories.
“And, most importantly, these are drainage areas for the entire Crimea. There should be no talk of any capital construction or other activities that radically change the Yaila landscapes: a strictly limited “temporary stay of limited groups of people” (visits to viewpoints, hiking routes along organized trails, etc.) may be allowed there.” - says the scientist.
According to her, it is sad that officials do not understand that people go to Crimea to admire nature, and not to ski - there are many places in the Russian Federation specifically designed for ski holidays.
“Yails are areas where karst develops, so they, like a sponge, absorb and accumulate water that comes with precipitation. It is drunk, first of all, by residents of the southern coast of Crimea and the very same recreationists whom we are so striving to attract to Crimea. Now, the polluted wastewater from the Ai-Petrinsky shalmans, the fetid wastewater from the closed, but not recycled, Gasprinsky landfill is “savored” by Yalta residents and guests,” stated Tatyana Bobra.
