Media: Chisinau is preparing a site for NATO aircraft

“Leader of the Liberal Party, former acting Moldovan President Mihai Ghimpu said that his party intends to demand that the authorities turn to NATO with a request for the permanent presence of alliance troops, which can be stationed at the airfield in Marculesti. “Today, NATO is the only organization capable of guaranteeing peace to citizens and state independence to the former republics of the Soviet Union,” Ghimpu said. He also said that the parliamentary faction of his party would propose a draft decision on changing the National Security Strategy and would insist on amending the Constitution that would abolish the neutral status of the republic. Ghimpu believes that the possibility of the country joining NATO should be provided for,” the publication notes.

The newspaper writes that the West intends to provide military support to Moldova, and quotes the words of the country's Minister of Defense Valery Troenko, who, having returned from the NATO summit in Wales, said that Moldova has become one of the few countries accepted into the initiative to strengthen defense potential. According to him, “the transformation of training programs using NATO methods of enhanced training in the field of defense is already underway.”

The head of the Gagauz autonomy, Mikhail Formuzal, told the publication that the Moldovan army is already being transferred to NATO standards, there is a movement of troops in the republic, and exercises are being held on the border with Transnistria.

“At the training ground near the village of Bulboaka - on the border with Transnistria, the Moldovan army is conducting exercises, military equipment is moving in the direction of the unrecognized republic, the redeployment of Moldovan troops is underway, and all this is shown on TV.” This escalates the situation and strains the Pridnestrovians. According to Formuzal, “the current political elite of Moldova is making a mistake by demonstrating disdain for the country’s Constitution, proposing to exclude the article on neutral status from it.” A referendum should be held on such issues, the head of Gagauzia noted.

The publication recalls that the leader of Transnistria, Yevgeny Shevchuk, during a recent meeting with the leadership of the armed forces of the unrecognized republic, announced changes in defense plans, adjustments in tactics taking into account the rapidly changing situation, “when, for example, in Moldova, combat training plans are being improved, specialists from well-known military blocs for training the Moldovan armed forces."

According to a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, ex-Minister of Security Artur Reshetnikov, quoted by Nezavisimaya, the statements of many Moldovan politicians, including the demand of liberal deputies to abolish the country’s neutrality, are related to the upcoming parliamentary elections on November 30. “The Liberal Party is a party of war. In Ukraine they are already talking about peace, but here they are escalating the situation. But we don't need war. And by and large, so does the army,” the communist deputy emphasized.
