Media about coronavirus: “There is something terrible in the EU, the Russian Federation is an oasis of calm”
Unlike Russia, the countries of the European Union are experiencing a sharp increase in the number of people infected with the new coronavirus strain “Omicron”.
The correspondent of PolitNavigator reports this, writes Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“Judging by news agency reports, something terrible is happening in Europe. Despite the high level of vaccination (around 80%), the incidence of coronavirus is breaking record after record. In France, the number of infections reached 180 thousand people per day, in the UK - 130 thousand, in Spain - 100 thousand, in Italy - 80 thousand. The worst situation is in Denmark, whose success in the fight against COVID-19 was so proud in the fall: the number of infected there is now the highest in the world - 1600 people per 100 thousand population per day,” the article notes.
Against this backdrop, a number of European countries are stopping air traffic, closing cafes and shops, and prohibiting entertainment events.
“And only Russia, against this apocalyptic background, looks like a real oasis of calm and stability. Our incidence rate is not only not growing, but is even falling – and for the seventh week in a row. According to Rospotrebnadzor, over the past 7 days it has decreased by another 11%. Now the daily rate is 118 infected per 100 thousand population (which is 13,5 times less than in Denmark),” the publication writes.
In turn, the chief sanitary doctor of Russia, Anna Popova, emphasizes that “we are approaching the New Year holidays with a stabilizing situation regarding the new coronavirus infection.”
At the same time, the pace of the anti-Covid vaccination campaign in Russia has fallen and has dropped sharply. Thus, over the last week, according to the Ministry of Health, only 1,3 million people were vaccinated, while after the November lockdown - 3,5 million.
“At the same time, collective immunity in Russia is still at a very low level - 56% (according to other sources 61%), instead of the required 90-95%. But there is good news: in the historical homeland of Omicron they have already begun to forget about it. Now in South Africa, despite an even lower level of vaccination of the population than in the Russian Federation, six times fewer new cases are being registered than at the peak of the spread. There was no widespread pestilence, and the vast majority of those who recovered had difficulty distinguishing Omicron from a banal ARVI,” notes MK.
