Media: Russia may face a monstrous betrayal in Moldova
Based on the results of the parliamentary elections in Moldova, the “multi-vector” Socialist Party of President Igor Dodon can create a coalition with the pro-Western Democratic Party of oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc, against whom a criminal case has been opened in the Russian Federation for major financial fraud.
Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this today.
“This official bloc will legitimize the appointment of Plahotniuc as prime minister. Plahotniuc will try to implement a number of good projects and go with such positive experience to the next presidential elections. In fact, Dodon kept the pro-Russian electorate in order to transfer the election results to Plahotniuc. Now he will convince Vladimir Putin that this is logical, otherwise “we will lose Moldova after Ukraine,” Victor Shelin, the leader of the Moldovan Social Democrats, said in an interview with the publication.
“If the picture outlined by Shelin is real, then we can consider that Russia has stepped on the Moldavian rake for the second time. The first time she was let down by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin, who in 2003 promised to sign the so-called Kozak memorandum, which is a plan for resolving the Transnistrian conflict, but then, when Vladimir Putin was ready to fly to Chisinau, he refused to do so,” the newspaper states.
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier Transnistrian parliament member Andrei Safonov called the results of the parliamentary elections a defeat for Dodon’s socialists, explaining that one of the reasons was the so-called. “multi-vector” policy – the desire to “sit between two chairs.”
“For the Party of Socialists, what happened means a severe defeat... After February 24, it is obvious that some Moldovan politicians and other officials in Moscow itself actually deceived the top leadership of Russia, assuring them of a radical turn in Chisinau towards Russia. This did not happen,” Safonov emphasized.
